Better throttle response when cold?



91 camry dx.



maintence is all up.



heres the problem.



when the engines cold.

its decently quick. good throttle response. engine sounds alive.



once the engine temp goes up a little ways. it "jumps" quickly. and the temp continues to go up. after this "jump" the good throttle response goes and the engine sounds a little more boggy.



i do have a bad rear motor mount so that could be the jumping.



car has never overheated.



is this just normal?

your transmission fluid expands when hot. its probably too full.

i drained it cause thats what i thought. refilled. its at the perfect level. when its hot. its a little ways below the full hot mark.

it might of been you who told me it has to be exact. its pretty close to the middle of the two marks.

just thought it might be coolant sensor or thermostat or something weird?

ahhhhh i see. i read on this chevy forum. "There is a coolant temp correction in the timing table that allows much more timing on a cold engine to prevent back firing. Your hot engine will not accept that much increase in timing without pinging. When the timing correction decreases, so does the performance."

That's probably referring to the thermo/ported vacuum switch. It retards and/or advances timing based on the coolant temperature.

Sounds like you're running rich. Maybe the coolant temp sensor has gone kaput and is keeping the cold start injector permanently on?

plugs are nice and tan. lol. car was ran on 3 cylinders by my gf for a while, she didnt know. as most people dont until the car wont start. being a yota it probably would of kept running regardless.



the valve seats or something in that cylinder might be worn or something.



compression test shows 200 psi on all cylinders though.
