Slight Roaring Noise

2008 toy van with 62K miles

when my 2008 van is running at about 45 mph and shifts to high gear i hear a slight roaring noise.

If i press down on the fuel pedal, increase speed and trans shifts down then the noise goes away.

At higher speeds with trans in high gear you do not hear the noise.

Anyone ever have this problem with their vans. If so, what was the problem. Kinda sounds like sometype heat sheild vibrating.

Thanks, Fred

when by my local toyota dealer today to make an appointment to have them check out the mild roaring noise.

service manager said it might be torque converter chadder, who knows.

only makes the noise at about 47 mph at around 1300 rpms in 5 gear. No noise at any other speed.

hope it just a loose heat shield or some such. Bought van used with 48K miles, my plan was if it ran fine for 12K miles to 60K then i should be good to go for the long haul.

This vehicle may prove my plan wrong.

was planning to buy another used toyota tundra with 25K miles, but I may wait and see how this turns out.

took van to dealership today, to have noise checked out.

They found nothing wrong with van, said we were good to go.

They did complete two minor recall updates,

No charge for the service,

So i guess we are good to go.

Be sure that they have on record your complaint about the noise just in case something breaks.

Toyota dealers are really easy on the "it's normal" when the car is under warranty but as soon as it expires they find all problems...

The drone noise or vibration is getting worst in our 2008 van.

Today it seemed like each time the van shifted into the high gear at a low speed the noise came back. If you shift to a lower gear or increase speed the noise goes away.

on another forum someone had a similiar noise with his van, he just got under the van and readjusted a heat shield, also another person moved the muffler system around some.

Guess that will be my next project as soon as the weather breaks.

Mama is not happy with the noise, it did not make this noise when we first got the van.

Do you also hear/feel the noise when turning? If so, it may be the wheel bearings going. Turn left, right wheel bearing, turn right, left wheel bearing. HTH.
