turbo gone walkabout

hi guys, got 2 99 model Caldina GTT's, one is awesome, the other seems like the turbo is not there. doesn't have any pull, and the exhaust flap doesn't open. does anyone know of issues with ecu contolling the turbo gear?

i forgot to mention, it's a 3sgte and only got 86 000 kms

Check the wastegate actuator. It's bolted to the compressor housing of the turbo. You'll see it almost directly underneath the top radiator hose. If this is sticking then the boost will be very low, but if it's broken then there will be no boost at all.

thanks mate, i've now checked that out, it's moving freely, talk the pressure line off the turbo, pushed some air pressure into it, openng and closing sweetly. opened up the exhaust flap too, but the ecu closed it off again. starting to think the ecu isn't getting the right pressure input from the turbo.

Check the pressure line to the wastegate actuator for leaks.

Also check the line from the boost pressure sensor to the intake manifold.

which one is the boost pressure sensor? too many options...

The turbo pressure sensor on the Caldina 3S-GTE is located on the intake manifold at the rear of the engine. The actual sensor is all electronically controlled, but there are vacuum lines below it that are worth checking for splits etc. Swapping out the actual pressure sensor is worth trying too, since you have two Caldinas and all

Here are some photos I just took to show you where it's located:

just got the other car back off my dad, it's dull as a dodo now too. do these things have an issues with the map sensor? or do they just screw up on our fuel?

does anyone know a good mechanic who understands these things? anywhere from sunshine coast to bris? local guy witha good reputation tells me all is good according to his scan tools, but both cars are now slower than my 3.4 v6 prado

so you guys can talk these cars up, but in reality know nothing about them??? i think you guys are trying to make yourselves feel good about a bad purchase.

What?.... The Caldina in the photos I posted earlier belongs to my brother. He has never experienced any sort of boost troubles so I don't know what else to tell you. I had experienced a similar problem with one of the turbocharged cars I used to own and it turned out to be the wastegate actuator arm that had broken, hence why I suggested to check it. The only other thing you can do is check all of your vacuum lines to make sure you don't have a boost leak. Otherwise take it to a mechanic and get it properly diagnosed. It's not easy giving you an answer over the internet, so the attitude is unnecessary...
