SB Fuel tank info

Hey everyone! I did a search yesterday in this forum for fuel tanks. Some interesting problems and cures popped up but not my issue.

My son's '89 short bed 2wd carburated needs a tank. The top possibly around the sender area has a hole/crack or both. Are they all close to 300 bux? Why is the long bed so much cheaper? Anyone have a good cheap fix? We used to have a Renu dealer in town years ago, now no one close. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's the tank, and not the fuel pick-up assy?

The fuel pick-up assy rusting out where the metal lines go into it and leaking is common.

Wish I could get the bolts off the back of the tank or get the bolts for the bed off.

Start spraying them down with penetrating oil.

I did that this past summer and it paid off. Can't believe there are 8 bolts. Filled the tank with water and found the leak on the back side above the seam. Fuel looked clean and is probably not attributing to the rough (miss) it has and bad mileage now according to my son. Put new plugs, cap & wires on with no change. Does pull steady 17" of vacuum. Timing good, advance works, choke looks like it's working. Do both sides open hot or is one side closed then open on demand?

Also have to fix this shackle which wasn't on the list.

This shudder issue has got me stumpped. Idles ok but seems like it has a vacuum leak when you hit the accelerator and continues when you drive down the road. Plugs look good, new fuel filter, gas tank leak fixed, choke opreates as it should. Need other places to look.
